New expertise in finance, policy, and emissions management positions nonprofit for its next chapter of growth and impact
PASADENA, Calif., Oct. 22, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Today, Carbon Mapper announced that Nile Garritson and Bob Stout were appointed to its Board of Directors.
Garritson brings deep financial and risk management expertise from nearly two decades in energy, while Stout brings almost three decades of global policy, legal, and public affairs leadership from bp. Together, their experience strengthens the financial discipline and policy insight guiding Carbon Mapper’s mission to make methane and carbon dioxide emissions data accessible and actionable.
Carbon Mapper is scaling quickly to meet the urgency of the climate crisis. Since launching its first Tanager satellite with Planet Labs in 2024, the organization has publicly tracked thousands of methane plumes worldwide and partnered with governments and industry to turn that data into on-the-ground emissions reductions. On October 1, Carbon Mapper launched the second satellite in its growing constellation — multiplying the public methane data available to governments, regulators, industry, and international climate initiatives working to accelerate near-term emissions reductions.
“As we scale our satellite constellation, we’re equally focused on scaling the data platform, science, and partnerships that turn that data into action,” said Erin Blanton, Carbon Mapper Chief Operating Officer. “Nile and Bob bring the financial and policy rigor to help us grow with purpose and deliver lasting climate impact.”
About Nile Garritson
Nile Garritson, CFA is Portfolio Manager at the California State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS), where he is responsible for engaging with portfolio companies and proxy voting, as well as contributing to progress against the Fund’s Net Zero 2050 pledge through diligence on investments in climate solutions and engaging policymakers. Established in 1913, CalSTRS is the largest educator-only pension fund in the world with $415.4 billion in assets under management as of June 30, 2026. Prior to CalSTRS, Garritson spent eight years on the buy side primarily covering the oil & gas sector and four years in corporate finance and risk management at a publicly traded electric utility. He holds a bachelor’s in finance and an MBA from the University of Southern California.
About Bob Stout
Bob Stout spent nearly three decades in global legal, compliance, and public affairs leadership at bp, where he advocated for policies that use advanced technology to detect, measure, and reduce emissions across the gas supply chain. He served on the Coordinating Subcommittee for the National Petroleum Council’s study on reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the U.S. natural gas supply chain and currently advises the Harvard Law School Environmental & Energy Law Program on methane policy as part of its methane roundtable. Based in Washington, D.C., he is also a Senior Fellow with Future 500, a nonprofit focused on building trust between companies, advocates, and philanthropists to advance business as a force for good, and a Senior Advisor at CO2EFFICIENT, where he counsels the National Gas Innovation Network (NGIN), a coalition dedicated to enhancing the transparency of the natural gas value chain, fostering technological innovation and emissions reduction.
